Albania has a reliable bus system between major cities, but renting a car is the best way to explore the country. A car rental costs around 10,000 - 15,000 lek (approx. £60-£90 or $80-$120) per day. Taxis are also available but negotiate the price before getting in. The ferry ride on Koman Lake costs around 2000 lek (approx. £12 or $16).
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to the Albanian Riviera or the Blue Eye of Saranda. If you have less time, skip Elbasan and spend more time in Berat or Gjirokastra. Be aware that some locations, especially in the Albanian Alps, may not have ATMs, so carry enough cash.
