Two-Day Itinerary for Chikmagalur in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mullayanagiri
    1 hour 30 minutes (28.5 km) from Chikmagalur City

    Morning: Start your day early and head towards Mullayanagiri, the highest peak in Karnataka. Enjoy a scenic drive through the lush greenery surrounding the hill. Once you reach the top, be prepared to witness a mesmerizing view of the sunrise. The trek to the peak is moderate and takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on your fitness level.
    Afternoon: Drive down to Seethalayanagiri and visit the ancient temple of Lord Shiva, located on top of the hill. It is believed that the sage Markandeya performed penance here. Spend some time in solitude and enjoy the spiritual vibe of the temple.
    Evening: Head back to Chikmagalur city and visit the Jhari Waterfalls. Located amidst the lush green coffee plantations, the waterfall is a sight to behold. You can take a dip in the cool waters and enjoy the scenic surroundings.

    1 hour 15 minutes (30 km) from Chikmagalur City

    Morning: Start your day early and head towards Baba Budangiri, which is named after the Muslim saint Baba Budan. Visit the Dattatreya Peetha, a sacred site for both Hindus and Muslims. It is believed that the sage Narada meditated here. The trek to the peak is easy and takes around 30-45 minutes.
    Afternoon: Visit the picturesque Manikyadhara Falls, located in the Baba Budangiri hills. The waterfall is known for its therapeutic properties and is surrounded by lush greenery. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the falls and take a dip in the cool waters.
    Evening: Drive back to Chikmagalur city and visit the famous Belur and Halebid temples. The temples are known for their exquisite sculptures and architecture. The intricate carvings on the temple walls are a sight to behold.
