3-Day Jaipur Itinerary for City Experiences in September 2023

  1. Day 1: City Palace
    10 minutes (3.2 km) from Jaipur Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the City Palace, a sprawling complex consisting of several buildings, courtyards and gardens. Built in the 18th century, it was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Marvel at the intricate Rajasthani architecture and the impressive collection of art, manuscripts and weapons. In the afternoon, stroll through the adjacent Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory with enormous, precision-engineered instruments. End the day with a visit to Hawa Mahal, the iconic Palace of the Winds, which has 953 small windows.

  2. Day 2: Nahargarh Fort
    30 minutes (14.7 km) from City Palace

    In the morning, take a drive up to Nahargarh Fort, which sits atop a hill and offers panoramic views of the city. The fort was built in the 18th century and has several palaces and temples within its walls. In the afternoon, visit the Albert Hall Museum, which houses an extensive collection of art, artefacts and curiosities from Rajasthan and beyond. End the day with a visit to the Birla Mandir, a modern, white-marble temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

  3. Day 3: Amber Fort
    30 minutes (11.2 km) from Nahargarh Fort

    In the morning, head to Amber Fort, a majestic fort-palace complex located on a hill overlooking Maota Lake. The fort was built in the 16th century and has several beautiful buildings, pavilions and gardens. Take an elephant ride up to the fort for a memorable experience. In the afternoon, visit the Jal Mahal, a palace situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. End the day with a visit to the Jaigarh Fort, which houses the world's largest cannon on wheels.

Other local attractions worth considering are the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, home to the Rajasthan Royals cricket team, and the Raj Mandir Cinema, a beautiful Art Deco movie theatre. You can also take a side trip to the nearby town of Pushkar, famous for its annual camel fair and the Brahma Temple. To maximise your fun, try some local street food such as pyaaz kachori, golgappe, and lassi. Don't forget to haggle when shopping for handicrafts and textiles at the local bazaars.
