Exploring Nature in Mumbai - June 2023

  1. 9:00AM: Sanjay Gandhi National Park
    1 hour 10 minutes (25 miles) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a lush green forest reserve which is home to a variety of flora and fauna. You can take a safari ride to spot leopards, tigers, and other animals or hike to the highest point of the park to get a bird's eye view of Mumbai. You can also visit the Kanheri Caves that date back to the 1st century and explore Buddhist sculptures and carvings.

  2. 11:00AM: Elephanta Caves
    1 hour 50 minutes (11 miles) from Sanjay Gandhi National Park

    Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features rock-cut cave temples that are dedicated to Hindu and Buddhist deities. The caves date back to the 5th century and feature intricate carvings and sculptures. You can take a ferry ride from Gateway of India to the island where the caves are located.

  3. 2:00PM: Hanging Gardens of Mumbai
    1 hour 10 minutes (7.5 miles) from Elephanta Caves

    Hanging Gardens of Mumbai is a terraced garden located on the slopes of Malabar Hill. It offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea and is a popular spot for picnics and leisurely walks. You can also visit the nearby Kamala Nehru Park which has a giant shoe-shaped structure for children to play in.

  4. 4:00PM: Bandra Fort
    30 minutes (4.5 miles) from Hanging Gardens of Mumbai

    Bandra Fort is a 17th-century fort located in the suburb of Bandra. It was built by the Portuguese as a watchtower overlooking the Mahim Bay. The fort offers panoramic views of the sea and the city and is a popular spot for photography and relaxation.

You can visit the Gateway of India and take a boat ride to explore the Mumbai Harbour. You can also visit the Global Vipassana Pagoda which is a meditation centre located on the outskirts of Mumbai. If you have time, you can take a day trip to the hill station of Lonavala which is known for its scenic views and waterfalls.
