Two-Day Itinerary for Ujjain in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Ujjain Junction railway station

    In the morning, visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is open from 4:00 AM to 11:00 PM and is most famous for its Bhasma Aarti, a ritual where ashes are used instead of flowers or incense. After lunch, head to the Kal Bhairav ​​Temple, dedicated to Lord Kal Bhairav. This temple is located in the old city and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites. In the evening, visit Ram Ghat on the banks of the Kshipra River and witness the Ganga Aarti, a beautiful ritual that takes place every evening.

  2. Day 2: Sandipani Ashram and Observatory
    25 minutes (6 km) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Sandipani Ashram, an ancient ashram where Lord Krishna and Sudama received their education. The ashram also has a beautiful garden and a pond. After that, head to the Jantar Mantar Observatory, which is an astronomical observation site built in the 17th century. The observatory is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In the afternoon, visit the Vedh Shala Museum, located inside the observatory, which houses ancient astronomical instruments. In the evening, enjoy a boat ride in the calm waters of the Kshipra River.
