3-Day Itinerary for Chopta Tungnath in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chopta
    Starting Point: Haridwar
    Distance from Haridwar: 225 km (6 hours)

    Morning: Start your journey from Haridwar and drive towards Chopta. After reaching Chopta, check into your hotel and freshen up. Enjoy a scenic walk through the forests and meadows of Chopta. You can also trek to Deoria Tal, a beautiful lake surrounded by forests.

    Afternoon: Have lunch at a local restaurant and head to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek to the temple is steep and takes around 3-4 hours. Witness the mesmerizing sunset from the temple premises.

    Evening: Head back to Chopta and enjoy the local delicacies for dinner. Spend the evening stargazing and relaxing in the cool mountain air.

  2. Day 2: Ukhimath and Guptkashi
    Starting Point: Chopta
    Distance from Chopta: 48 km (2 hours)

    Morning: After breakfast, drive to Ukhimath, a beautiful town with ancient temples and scenic views of the Himalayas. Visit the Omkareshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to various flora and fauna.

    Afternoon: Have lunch at a local restaurant and drive to Guptkashi, a small town located on the banks of the Mandakini River. Visit the ancient Vishwanath Temple and the Ardhanarishwar Temple, which houses a half-male, half-female idol of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

    Evening: Head back to Chopta and enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. Spend the evening exploring the local markets and handicraft shops.

  3. Day 3: Chandrashila and back to Haridwar
    Starting Point: Chopta
    Distance from Chopta: 8 km (1 hour)

    Morning: After breakfast, trek to Chandrashila, the highest peak in the Tungnath range. The trek takes around 4-5 hours and offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas. Witness the sunrise from the peak and take in the breathtaking scenery.

    Afternoon: Descend back to Chopta and have a hearty lunch at a local restaurant. Pack your bags and check out of your hotel, and start your journey back to Haridwar.

    Evening: Reach Haridwar by evening and catch your train/flight back home.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit Auli, a popular ski resort located 70 km from Chopta. You can also take a dip in the hot water springs of Gaurikund, located 30 km from Guptkashi. If you're interested in adventure activities, you can go camping, rock climbing, and rappelling in Chopta. To maximize your fun, pack comfortable clothes, a good pair of shoes, sunscreen, and a camera to capture the beautiful views.
