7-Day Itinerary for Darjeeling, Gangtok, Nathula in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Darjeeling
    2 hours (40 miles) from Bagdogra Airport

    Visit the Tiger Hill to witness the stunning sunrise over a panoramic view of the mountains. Head to Ghum Monastery, the highest point of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and explore the Batasia Loop. Stroll around the town and enjoy a cup of the famous Darjeeling tea at a local tea shop.

  2. Day 2: Darjeeling
    1 hour (20 miles) from Darjeeling

    Visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and see rare Himalayan animal species like Red Panda, Snow Leopard, and Himalayan Salamander. Spend some time at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which has a museum featuring mountaineering artifacts and the Tenzing Norgay Gallery. Take a scenic ride on the Darjeeling Ropeway and enjoy the views of the valley.

  3. Day 3: Gangtok
    2 hours (71 miles) from Darjeeling

    Visit the Enchey Monastery and the Rumtek Monastery. Explore the Banjhakri Falls, which has a park with a small hydel power plant, water sports, and a dragon-themed park. Take a stroll around the MG Marg and enjoy the local shopping and food.

  4. Day 4: Gangtok
    1.5 hours (50 miles) from Gangtok

    Visit the Nathula Pass, a mountain pass in the Himalayas that connects India and China. Enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas and visit the Indo-China border. If Nathula Pass is closed, you can visit the Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir instead.

  5. Day 5: Gangtok
    2.5 hours (75 miles) from Gangtok

    Visit the Yumthang Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers, and enjoy the natural beauty of the valley. Take a dip in the hot springs of Yumthang. If Yumthang Valley is closed, you can visit the Lachung Monastery and the Seven Sisters Waterfalls.

  6. Day 6: Nathula
    2.5 hours (56 miles) from Gangtok

    Visit the Nathula Pass and enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas and visit the Indo-China border. If Nathula Pass is closed, you can visit the Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir instead.

  7. Day 7: Departure
    2 hours (71 miles) from Nathula

    Depart to Bagdogra Airport for your flight back home.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Pelling and Ravangla in Sikkim. You can also take a day trip to Mirik, a picturesque hill station known for its tea gardens and orange orchards. Do not miss the fresh momos and thukpa, a popular Sikkimese noodle soup. To maximize your fun, try paragliding and river rafting in Teesta River. Do not forget to get a permit for Nathula Pass in advance.
