2-Day Itinerary for Alibaug in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Alibaug Beach
    5 minutes (0.5 miles) from Alibaug Bus Station

    Morning: Start your day with a pleasant walk along the 2-kilometer-long stretch of Alibaug Beach. Enjoy the stunning views of the Arabian Sea while soaking up the morning sun. Along the way, indulge in some street food and local snacks.

    Afternoon: Visit the Kolaba Fort, located at the tip of the Alibaug Beach. This 17th-century fort was built by the Maratha Empire and served as a naval station during the reign of Shivaji Maharaj. Spend some time exploring the fort and learning about its history.

    Evening: End your day with a visit to the Magnetic Observatory, located just a few minutes away from the fort. The observatory is a part of the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism and is open to visitors. Get an insight into the Earth's magnetic field and observe the instruments in action.

  2. Day 2: Varsoli Beach and Kanakeshwar Forest
    15 minutes (3 miles) from Alibaug Beach

    Morning: Head over to Varsoli Beach, a secluded and tranquil beach located about 3 miles from Alibaug. The beach is relatively less crowded, and you can enjoy some peaceful time here. Take a dip in the crystal clear water and bask in the sun.

    Afternoon: Visit the Kanakeshwar Forest, located about 10 miles from Varsoli Beach. The forest is known for its beautiful waterfalls, trekking trails, and birdwatching opportunities. You can also visit the Kanakeshwar temple, which is located atop a hill and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and hills.

    Evening: End your trip with a visit to the Karmarkar Museum, which is located in the heart of Alibaug. The museum houses a vast collection of sculptures, paintings, and artifacts created by the renowned artist Late Mr. Nanasaheb Karmarkar.

Recommendations

If you have some more time, you can also explore the beaches of Nagaon, Kashid, and Murud-Janjira. These beaches are known for their pristine waters and are located near Alibaug. You can also take a ferry ride to the nearby Elephanta caves, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Don't forget to try some local delicacies like Vada Pav, Bhajiya, and Poha.
