4-Day City Experience Itinerary for Ladakh in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Leh Palace
    10 minutes (2.1 km) from Leh city centre

    In the morning, visit the historic Leh Palace which offers stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, explore the bustling markets of Leh where you can find traditional Ladakhi crafts and souvenirs. In the evening, enjoy a delicious Tibetan dinner at Lamayuru Restaurant.

  2. Day 2: Shanti Stupa & Leh Market
    20 minutes (5.2 km) from Leh Palace

    In the morning, visit the iconic Shanti Stupa which boasts panoramic views of the Himalayas. In the afternoon, return to the Leh Market to explore more shops, cafes and restaurants. In the evening, catch a movie at Dreamland Theatre.

  3. Day 3: Alchi Monastery & Nubra Valley
    2.5 hours (69 km) from Leh city centre

    In the morning, take a scenic drive to Alchi Monastery, one of the oldest and most well-preserved monasteries in the region. In the afternoon, continue on to Nubra Valley, famous for its sand dunes and double-humped camels. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ladakhi dinner at Mystic Meadows Camp.

  4. Day 4: Hemis Monastery & Thiksey Monastery
    2 hours (52 km) from Mystic Meadows Camp

    In the morning, visit Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. In the afternoon, head to Thiksey Monastery which features a beautiful 15-metre high statue of the Maitreya Buddha. In the evening, return to Leh for a farewell dinner at Bon Appetit.

Recommendations

Aside from the places mentioned, other attractions worth visiting include the Shey Palace, Zanskar Valley and Tso Moriri Lake. For a side trip, consider visiting the historical town of Lamayuru or taking a trek to the stunning Markha Valley. To maximize fun, participate in a cultural event such as a Ladakhi dance performance or attend a traditional Ladakhi wedding. Lastly, it is always a good idea to acclimatize to the high altitude before embarking on any adventures in Ladakh.
