Lonavala Nature Itinerary - June 2024

  1. 9:00AM: Bhushi Dam
    15 minutes (4.2 km) from Lonavala Bus Stand

    Start your day at Bhushi Dam, a popular picnic spot amongst locals. During monsoons, the dam overflows, creating a waterfall where visitors can enjoy a refreshing dip. The view of the Western Ghats from here is breathtaking. Please note that the dam is closed during heavy rainfall.

  2. 11:00AM: Bushy Dam Waterfall
    10 minutes (3.4 km) from Bhushi Dam

    After a relaxing time at Bhushi Dam, visit the nearby Bushy Dam Waterfall. The waterfall is best seen during monsoon season, offering a picturesque view of the cascading water surrounded by lush greenery. Visitors can also enjoy a nature walk around the area.

  3. 1:00PM: Ryewood Park & Shivaji Udyan
    16 minutes (6.3 km) from Bushy Dam Waterfall

    Located in the heart of Lonavala, Ryewood Park is a peaceful and serene place. The park is filled with tall trees, manicured lawns, and colourful flowers. Shivaji Udyan, located inside the park, displays a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the great Maratha warrior. Visitors can spend a couple of hours relaxing and enjoying the greenery.

  4. 3:00PM: Tiger's Leap
    15 minutes (6.2 km) from Ryewood Park & Shivaji Udyan

    Experience the thrill of standing on the edge of a cliff at Tiger's Leap. Located at a height of 650m, the viewpoint provides a panoramic view of Lonavala and the Sahyadri ranges. The spot is named Tiger's Leap after a legend that suggests that a tiger used to leap from this spot to another side of the valley to drink water.

  5. 5:00PM: Karla Caves
    20 minutes (9.3 km) from Tiger's Leap

    End your day, exploring the ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves of Karla. The caves date back to 2nd century BC and are a testimony to the exquisite rock-cut architecture of ancient India. The caves are adorned with Buddhist sculptures and carvings, and visitors can climb up to the top of the hill to enjoy a view of the surrounding valley.

Additionally, you can also enjoy trekking in the nearby hills or visit the nearby Amrutanjan Point. For side trips, consider visiting the nearby hill stations of Khandala or Matheran.
