Three-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Guwahati in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kamakhya Temple
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Guwahati Railway Station

    The Kamakhya Temple is a must-visit for anyone visiting Guwahati. The temple is one of the most famous Shakti Peethas in India and is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya. The morning is the best time to visit the temple as it tends to get crowded later in the day. The temple complex has several smaller temples and shrines that you can explore. Afternoon is a great time to try some of the local food near the temple. In the evening, you can head to the Umananda Temple, a small temple on Peacock Island in the Brahmaputra River.

  2. Day 2: Assam State Zoo, Botanical Garden, and Regional Science Centre
    20 minutes (8.2 km) from Kamakhya Temple

    Start your day at the Assam State Zoo, which is home to a variety of animals, including tigers, leopards, and rhinos. Afternoon is a great time to visit the Botanical Garden, which houses a variety of plant species. The garden is a great place for a relaxing stroll. In the evening, head to the Regional Science Centre, where you can enjoy several exhibits, including an indoor planetarium.

  3. Day 3: Basistha Ashram, Dipor Bil, and Hajo
    40 minutes (14.9 km) from Regional Science Centre

    Start your day by visiting the Basistha Ashram, a beautiful temple located on the outskirts of Guwahati. The ashram is surrounded by lush greenery and has a peaceful atmosphere. After that, you can head to Dipor Bil, a freshwater lake that is home to several bird species. You can enjoy a boat ride on the lake and spot some of the rare birds that call Dipor Bil their home. In the evening, head to Hajo, a small town located about 25 km from Guwahati. Hajo is home to several ancient temples and is a great place to learn about Assam's rich history.
