Exploring Pondicherry in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Sri Aurobindo Ashram
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Pondicherry Airport

    In the morning, we will visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community founded in the early 20th century. The ashram is a peaceful and reflective place where visitors can learn about the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and his colleague, The Mother. In the afternoon, we will head to the nearby Pondicherry Museum, which showcases the rich cultural history of the region. In the evening, we will explore the French Quarter, admiring the colonial architecture and enjoying the quaint cafes.

  2. Day 2: Auroville
    30 minutes (15 km) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram

    Today we will head to the experimental township of Auroville, founded in the 1960s with the goal of promoting human unity and sustainable living. In the morning, we will attend a meditation session at the Matrimandir, a stunning golden sphere that serves as the spiritual center of Auroville. In the afternoon, we will explore the various eco-friendly communities and projects in Auroville, such as the Solitude Farm and the Auroville Botanical Gardens. In the evening, we will return to Pondicherry for a seafood dinner at one of the local restaurants.

  3. Day 3: Paradise Beach
    20 minutes (7 km) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram

    Today we will enjoy some fun in the sun at Paradise Beach, a secluded stretch of sand accessible only by boat. We will spend the morning lounging on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and perhaps even trying our hand at some water sports. In the afternoon, we will head back to Pondicherry to visit the famous Immaculate Conception Cathedral, an impressive Gothic church that dates back to the 1700s. In the evening, we will head to the Promenade Beach area to enjoy the sea breeze and street food.

  4. Day 4: Chunnambar Boat House
    30 minutes (11 km) from Paradise Beach

    Today we will explore the backwaters of Pondicherry on a boat tour from the Chunnambar Boat House. In the morning, we will take a leisurely ride through the mangrove forests and stop at the remote Plage Paradiso beach for some tranquility. In the afternoon, we will head back to the city to visit the Bharathi Park and the Pondicherry Lighthouse. In the evening, we will enjoy a cocktail at one of the rooftop bars overlooking the Bay of Bengal.

  5. Day 5: Botanical Garden
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Pondicherry Lighthouse

    On our final day, we will visit the serene Botanical Garden, home to a variety of exotic plants and trees. In the morning, we will take a guided tour of the gardens and learn about the unique flora of the region. In the afternoon, we will head to the nearby Ousteri Lake, a popular spot for boating and birdwatching. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner at one of Pondicherry's finest restaurants.
