4-Day Relaxation Itinerary in Ujjain in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga
    15 minutes (5.2 km) from Ujjain Junction

    Start your day by visiting the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for its unique Bhasma Aarti, a ritual where the lingam is covered with ash.   2. Day 2: Kaliadeh Palace and Vedh Shala Observatory
    25 minutes (8.5 km) from Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

    In the morning, visit the Kaliadeh Palace, located on the banks of the Shipra river. It is believed to have been built by the King of Avanti and was used as a place for relaxation. Afternoon: Visit the Vedh Shala Observatory, which was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 17th century. It has unique astronomical instruments used for measuring time, predicting eclipses, and tracking stars. In the evening, relax at the Kalidas Academy and watch a classical dance performance.

  3. Day 3: Sandipani Ashram and Harsiddhi Temple

Afternoon: Visit the Harsiddhi Temple, dedicated to the goddess Annapurna. It is believed that the elbow of the goddess Sati fell here.   4. Day 4: Mangalnath Temple and Kal Bhairav Temple
    30 minutes (10 km) from Harsiddhi Temple

    In the morning, visit the Mangalnath Temple, dedicated to the planet Mars. It is believed that Lord Shiva meditated here and the temple is located at the centre of the Tropic of Cancer. Afternoon: Visit the Kal Bhairav Temple, dedicated to Lord Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. In the evening, head to the Triveni Museum and learn about the history of Ujjain.

Other local attractions and experiences include the Bhartrihari Caves, located on the banks of the Shipra river. These caves are believed to be the place where Bhartrihari, the stepbrother of King Vikramaditya, meditated.
