5-Day Nature Itinerary for Spiti Valley in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kaza

    In the morning, visit the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary to spot rare Himalayan wildlife like the Tibetan wolf and the snow leopard. In the afternoon, visit the Key Monastery, the largest in Spiti Valley, and learn about the history and culture of the region.   2. Day 2: Langza
    1 hour 20 minutes (23 miles) from Kaza

    In the morning, drive to Langza, a beautiful village surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Visit the ancient Lang (Temple) and the statue of Lord Buddha overlooking the valley. In the afternoon, hike to the nearby Hikkim village to visit the world's highest post office. In the evening, stargaze at the clear night sky, away from the city lights.

  3. Day 3: Chandratal Lake
    5 hours (78 miles) from Langza

    In the morning, drive to Chandratal Lake, a stunning crystal-clear lake situated at an altitude of 14,100 feet. Take a leisurely walk around the lake, enjoy a picnic lunch, and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. In the evening, camp near the lake and enjoy a bonfire under the stars.

  4. Day 4: Pin Valley National Park
    3 hours 30 minutes (63 miles) from Chandratal Lake

    In the morning, visit the Pin Valley National Park, home to rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. Take a guided trek to spot the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan ibex, and Tibetan gazelle. In the afternoon, visit the 14th-century Kungri Monastery and learn about the ancient Bon religion of Spiti. In the evening, return to Kaza for the night.

  5. Day 5: Dhankar
    1 hour (15 miles) from Kaza

    In the morning, visit the Dhankar Monastery, perched on a rocky outcrop above the confluence of Spiti and Pin rivers. Take a short hike to the ancient Dhankar Fort and witness the panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. In the afternoon, visit the Dhankar Lake, a picturesque high-altitude lake, located at a short distance from the monastery. In the evening, return to Kaza for the night.

If you are an adventure seeker, consider a trek to the stunning Parang La Pass. You can also visit the Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest and most important monasteries in the region. To maximize your fun, consider renting a bike or a scooter to explore the remote villages and valleys of Spiti.
