Exploring Sikkim in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    Located 37 km (1 hour 20 minutes) from Pakyong Airport
    Start your day by visiting the famous Rumtek Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in the region. Afterwards, head to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to learn about the history and culture of Tibet. In the afternoon, visit the Enchey Monastery, known for its intricate architecture and peaceful surroundings. End your day at the Banjhakri Falls, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush greenery.
  2. Day 2: Pelling
    Located 120 km (4 hours) from Gangtok
    Start your day by visiting the Pemayangtse Monastery, an ancient monastery known for its intricate carvings and beautiful paintings. Then, head to the Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred lake believed to fulfill wishes. In the afternoon, visit the Rabdentse Ruins, the former capital of Sikkim, and explore the ancient ruins and the surrounding forest. End your day by visiting the Singshore Bridge, the highest bridge in Sikkim offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can consider visiting Yuksom, a historic town known for its trekking trails and monasteries. You can also take a trip to the beautiful Tsomgo Lake or the Nathula Pass, located on the Indo-China border. To maximize your fun, try the local delicacies such as momos, thukpa and churpee. Finally, don't forget to buy some souvenirs such as traditional Sikkimese handwoven carpets and handicrafts.
