The Hierapolis Archaeological Site is a UNESCO World Heritage site located next to the Pamukkale Travertine Terraces. It features well-preserved Roman ruins, including an amphitheater, a necropolis, and a large thermal bath complex, which is still possible to swim in.
The Pamukkale Travertine Terraces are a natural wonder formed of dazzling white travertine shelves and turquoise pools. Visitors can walk barefoot on the terraces and swim in the natural pools. Due to erosion and damage caused by tourism, visitors are only allowed to enter certain sections of the terraces.
Paşa Kebap Restaurant is a traditional Turkish restaurant offering tasty meat dishes, including lamb or chicken kebabs, grilled eggplant, and Turkish mezze. It has an attractive location with scenic views over the nearby countryside.
Pamukkale Nature Park is a family-friendly park and outdoor activity centre with activities ranging from zip-lining, nature walks, and swimming in thermal pools. The park has several picnic areas where families can relax, and children can play. The park is open from 8:30AM to 7:00PM.
The Ancient Pool, also known as the Cleopatra Pool, is a beautiful outdoor pool filled with crystal-clear waters from a nearby natural hot spring. Visitors can swim among ancient ruins, including fallen columns thought to be gifted by Cleopatra. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful view of Pamukkale while lounging in the pool.
The White Goose Terrace is a quiet and peaceful section of the Pamukkale Travertines. Here, visitors can appreciate the beautiful cascading pools and lounge at the terrace without being in a crowded tourist area.
The Hierapolis Theatre is an ancient Greco-Roman theatre that has held performances for over a thousand years. The theatre is carved into the hillside and offers a breathtaking view of the neighboring ruins and the valley below.
Most attractions in Pamukkale are within walking distance or short taxi rides. Taxis charge roughly 20 TL for a one-way trip from Pamukkale to the neighboring town Denizli. Using the minibus system, tourists can get around the town for as little as 10 TL per person. As Pamukkale is a small town, transportation is not usually an issue, and there are many taxi and minibus services available.
If you have more time, we suggest exploring more of the ancient city of Hierapolis, which has incredible examples of Roman ruins, including the red basilica, a Byzantine church, and a museum. We also suggest visiting the nearby Karahayıt Hot Springs, which are less crowded than the Travertines and provide an alternative thermal bath experience. Additionally, if you have less time, we suggest cutting Ancient Pool from your itinerary.
Pamukkale is located about 68km and a 1-hour drive from Denizli Çardak Airport. Denizli Çardak Airport (DNZ) is a small regional airport that has connections to Istanbul and other major Turkish cities.
