Exploring Family-Friendly Guwahati in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kamakhya Temple
    15 minutes (5.8 km) from Guwahati Railway Station

    In the morning, we will visit the Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India. It is believed to be the place where the yoni of Sati fell. Afternoon can be spent exploring the nearby Umananda Temple, a small island on the Brahmaputra River. Evening can be spent taking a boat ride to see the sunset from the Brahmaputra River.

  2. Day 2: Assam State Zoo
    30 minutes (10.2 km) from Kamakhya Temple

    Today, we will visit the Assam State Zoo, which is home to a wide range of animals and birds. The zoo is spread over an area of 432 acres and has many endangered species like the one-horned rhinoceros. In the afternoon, we will visit the nearby Nehru Park, which has a play area for children and a beautiful lake. Evening can be spent shopping at the bustling Fancy Bazaar.

  3. Day 3: Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra

  5. Day 5: Hajo

    Today, we will visit Hajo, a small town located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. Evening can be spent at the nearby Chandubi Lake, which offers boating and fishing facilities.

  6. Day 6: Basistha Ashram

    Today, we will visit the Basistha Ashram, a peaceful retreat located on the outskirts of Guwahati. The ashram is believed to have been the place where the sage Vashistha meditated. In the afternoon, we will visit the nearby Dipor Bil Bird Sanctuary, which is home to a wide variety of birds and reptiles. Evening can be spent at the Sarania Hills, which offer a panoramic view of Guwahati.
