Kerala Boathouse 3-day Itinerary for Family Friendly in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Thekkady
    4 hours (110 miles) from Cochin International Airport

    Morning: Enjoy the scenic beauty and wildlife of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Take a boat ride along the Periyar Lake and experience the serene surroundings. The Sanctuary is home to a wide range of species including elephants, monkeys, tigers, and birds.

    Afternoon: Visit the Mangla Devi Temple, believed to be more than 2000 years old. The temple is situated inside the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and is dedicated to Goddess Mangala.

    Evening: Head to the Kadathanadan Kalari Centre to watch a Kalaripayattu performance. Kalaripayattu is an Indian martial art and one of the oldest fighting systems in existence.

  2. Day 2: Alleppey
    3 hours (85 miles) from Thekkady

    Morning: Take a backwater cruise on a traditional Kerala houseboat. Enjoy the scenic views of the backwaters while relishing the traditional Kerala cuisine served on board.

    Afternoon: Visit the Alappuzha Beach and enjoy the sand, sun and water. Take a dip in the sea, stroll along the shore, and enjoy the sunset view.

    Evening: Visit the Mullakkal Rajeshwari Temple, located just 1 km from the beach. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Rajeshwari and is one of the most popular temples in the region.

  3. Day 3: Kovalam
    4 hours (140 miles) from Alleppey

    Morning: Enjoy the beach and lighthouse of the Kovalam Beach. The lighthouse offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

    Afternoon: Head to the Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium to explore the marine life. The aquarium hosts a variety of marine species like sharks, turtles, and crabs.

    Evening: Visit the Halcyon Castle, a beautiful palace built in the 1930s. The palace is a blend of traditional and colonial architecture and has now been converted into a museum.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, visit the hill station of Munnar, which is famous for its tea plantations and scenic views.
