3-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Vaishno Devi Temple in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Jammu
    Distance from Jammu airport to Katra: 50 km (2 hours drive approx.)

    After arriving in Jammu, hire a taxi to take you to Katra, the base camp for Vaishno Devi yatra. Spend the morning settling into your hotel and relaxing. In the afternoon, take a stroll to the local market and check out the shops selling souvenirs, snacks, and trekking gear. In the evening, visit the Aghar Jitto temple, located 8 km from Katra, which is dedicated to Baba Jitto, a farmer who fought for the rights of the poor and oppressed.

  2. Day 2: Trek to Vaishno Devi Temple
    Distance from Katra to Vaishno Devi Temple: 14 km (6 hours trek approx.)

    Start your trek to the Vaishno Devi temple early in the morning, as the trek can take up to 6 hours. The path is well-paved, and you can hire a pony or palanquin if you prefer not to walk. As you climb up, you'll pass through scenic forests and streams. Don't forget to stop by the Adkuwari temple, which is halfway up the trek. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with a magnificent view of the temple and the surrounding mountains. Spend the evening exploring the temple complex and attend the evening aarti.

  3. Day 3: Return to Jammu
    Distance from Vaishno Devi Temple to Jammu airport: 50 km (2 hours drive approx.)

    In the morning, start your descent back to Katra. Take a detour to the Bhairon temple, located 1.5 km from the Vaishno Devi temple. It is believed that the Vaishno Devi yatra is incomplete without visiting the Bhairon temple. After reaching Katra, freshen up and check out from the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Raghunath temple, which is located in the heart of Jammu city. This temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is one of the largest temple complexes in North India. Spend the evening shopping for souvenirs and handicrafts at the local market before departing for Jammu airport.

Other local attractions worth visiting include the Mansar Lake, which is located 62 km from Jammu and is famous for its beautiful surroundings and wildlife. You can also visit the Peer Kho cave temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in the heart of Jammu city.
