6-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Goa, August 2023

  1. Day 1: Anjuna Beach
    1 hour 7 minutes (19.7 miles) from Goa International Airport

    In the morning, enjoy the beautiful scenery and swim at Anjuna Beach. Have lunch at one of the many beachside shacks offering fresh seafood. In the afternoon, visit the nearby flea market and bargain for souvenirs and trinkets. In the evening, relax with a drink and watch the sunset from one of the beachside bars.

  2. Day 2: Fort Aguada
    50 minutes (12.9 miles) from Anjuna Beach

    Spend the morning exploring the 17th-century Portuguese fort, Fort Aguada. Take in the stunning views of the Arabian Sea and visit the lighthouse. For lunch, head to one of the nearby restaurants offering traditional Goan cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Sinquerim Beach for a swim. In the evening, visit the nearby Calangute Beach for the nightlife.

  3. Day 3: Dudhsagar Falls
    2 hours 17 minutes (44.2 miles) from Fort Aguada

    Take an early morning train to the Dudhsagar Falls, one of India's tallest waterfalls. The train journey itself is a beautiful experience through the lush Western Ghats. Spend the afternoon enjoying the falls and take a dip in the refreshing water. Head back to Goa in the evening, and enjoy a late dinner at one of the many seafood restaurants in Panaji.

  4. Day 4: Old Goa
    23 minutes (5.5 miles) from Panaji

    Spend the morning exploring the former colonial capital of Old Goa. Visit the Se Cathedral, the Basilica of Bom Jesus, and other beautiful churches and museums. Have lunch at one of the many local eateries in the area. In the afternoon, take a short ferry ride to Divar Island for a peaceful retreat. In the evening, head back to Panaji for a cultural show at the Kala Academy.

  5. Day 5: Spice Plantations
    1 hour 10 minutes (29.5 miles) from Kala Academy

    Take a guided tour of one of the many spice plantations in Goa. Learn about the cultivation and harvesting of various spices and herbs and enjoy a traditional Goan lunch. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Sahakari Spice Farm to learn about the medicinal properties of various plants. In the evening, head back to Panaji for dinner and some live music at one of the local bars.

  6. Day 6: Palolem Beach
    1 hour 25 minutes (38.2 miles) from Panaji

    Spend the morning relaxing at Palolem Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Goa. Take a boat ride to see the nearby Honeymoon Island and Butterfly Beach. Have lunch at one of the many beachside shacks offering fresh seafood. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary for a nature walk. In the evening, head back to Panaji for a farewell dinner at one of the city's top restaurants.

Recommendations

Other local attractions to consider are the Goa State Museum, the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, and the Tito's Club for nightlife. Side trips to the nearby state of Karnataka, including the Gokarna and Hampi, are also recommended. To maximize your fun, try to attend a local festival such as the Goa Carnival or the Feast of St. Francis Xavier. Finally, make sure to try some of the local specialties, including vindaloo, fish curry, and feni.
