5-Day Relaxing Itinerary for Ujjain & Omkareshwar in December 2024

  1. Day 1: Ujjain Arrival
    From Indore Airport to Ujjain (1 hour 30 minutes drive)

    In the morning, visit the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India, to witness the Bhasma Aarti, a unique ritual performed only in Ujjain. In the afternoon, visit Kal Bhairav Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva's fierce manifestation, and explore the local markets. In the evening, watch a light and sound show at the Kaliadeh Palace, showcasing the history and culture of Ujjain.

  2. Day 2: Ujjain
    10 minutes drive from Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple

    Visit Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir, a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha and known for its large idol of the deity. In the afternoon, explore the Sandipani Ashram, where Lord Krishna and Sudama are said to have received education. In the evening, take a boat ride in Ram Ghat and enjoy the serene view of the sunset.

  3. Day 3: Omkareshwar
    1 hour 40 minutes drive from Ujjain

    Visit Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, located on an island in the Narmada river, and take a dip in the holy river. In the afternoon, visit the ancient Kajal Rani Cave and the nearby Siddhanath Temple. In the evening, enjoy a scenic view of the Omkareshwar Dam and the Narmada river from the top of the hill.

  4. Day 4: Omkareshwar

    Take a morning walk to the banks of the Narmada river and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In the afternoon, visit the 8th-century Shri Omkar Mandhata Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and located on the other side of the river. In the evening, explore the local markets and taste the famous namkeens of the region.

  5. Day 5: Back to Indore
    2 hours 30 minutes drive from Omkareshwar

    In the morning, visit the Chintaman Ganesh Temple, located on the banks of the Shipra river, and offer your prayers to Lord Ganesha. In the afternoon, drive back to Indore and explore the city's attractions, such as the Lal Baag Palace and the Kanch Mandir. In the evening, enjoy the street food at Sarafa Bazaar.

Don't miss the opportunity to witness the grandeur of the Kumbh Mela, the largest religious gathering in the world, which will be held in Ujjain in 2028.
