2-Day Adventure Itinerary for Chandigarh in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Rock Garden of Chandigarh
    15 minutes (5.2 km) from Chandigarh Railway Station

    Morning: The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a unique sculpture garden made out of industrial and urban waste materials. The morning is the best time to visit when the weather is pleasant and the crowd is less. You can take a leisurely stroll through the garden to see the various art installations.
    Afternoon: Head to the Sukhna Lake, a serene natural reservoir located near the Rock Garden. You can indulge in some adventure sports like kayaking, canoeing, and boating. There are also some food stalls where you can try local delicacies.
    Evening: Visit the Government Museum and Art Gallery which houses a collection of Gandhara sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings, and contemporary Indian art. The museum is closed on Mondays.

  2. Day 2: Pinjore Gardens and Timber Trail
    30 minutes (22.5 km) from Rose Garden

    Morning: Visit the Pinjore Gardens, also known as Yadavindra Gardens, which is a historic 17th-century garden complex. The garden is famous for its seven terraces, each representing a different symbol of life. You can take a walk through the garden, relax on the lush green lawns, and enjoy the beautiful fountains.
    Afternoon: Drive to the Timber Trail, a scenic hill station located in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh. The Timber Trail is famous for its cable car ride that offers panoramic views of the Shivalik Range. You can also indulge in some adventure sports like trekking and mountain biking.
    Evening: Drive back to Chandigarh and visit the Rose Garden, a beautiful garden dedicated to roses. The garden has over 1500 varieties of roses and is a great place to relax and unwind. The garden is closed on Thursdays.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Chattbir Zoo, which is located around 20 km from Chandigarh. The zoo is home to a variety of animals like lions, tigers, and elephants. You can also visit the Cactus Garden, which is located near the PGI Hospital and has a collection of over 3500 species of cacti and succulents from around the world.
Another side trip you can take is to Kasauli, a small hill station located around 60 km from Chandigarh. Kasauli is famous for its colonial architecture, scenic views, and pleasant weather. You can also visit the Kasauli Brewery, the highest distillery in the world.
To maximize your fun, you can rent a bike and explore the city on your own. Chandigarh has a well-planned road network and is a great place for biking enthusiasts. You can also try some local street food like Chole Bhature, Aloo Tikki, and Kulfi Falooda.
Lastly, make sure to carry sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat as the weather can be quite hot and humid in June.
