4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad, Coimbatore in July 2024

  1. Day 1: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 30 minutes (37.4 miles) from Coimbatore Airport

    In the morning, visit the largest earthen dam in India, Banasura Sagar Dam. Enjoy the breathtaking view which is surrounded by the Banasura hills. In the afternoon, take a speed boat or a pedal boat ride in the lake. In the evening, explore the surrounding hills and trek to the nearby Meenmutty waterfalls.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 20 minutes (28.6 miles) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    In the morning, hike to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra Peak. It will take around 3-4 hours to reach the top, and it is a moderately difficult trek. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Soochipara waterfalls and take a dip in the natural pool. In the evening, take a drive to the nearby tea estates and watch the sunset from the top.

  3. Day 3: Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

    In the morning, visit the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to many exotic animals including elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. Take a guided safari and experience the wildlife up close. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Kuruvadweep Island which is a beautiful river delta with many small islands. In the evening, relax by the campfire and enjoy traditional Wayanad cuisine.

  4. Day 4: Edakkal Caves
    2 hours 30 minutes (64.3 miles) from Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

    In the morning, visit the fascinating Edakkal Caves which are believed to be over 8,000 years old. The cave has many stone carvings and ancient inscriptions which are believed to be from the Neolithic age. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and take a guided trek. In the evening, take a walk along the nearby Kalpetta town and shop for souvenirs.

If you have time, you can also consider visiting the Pookode Lake, Lakkidi View Point, and the Jain Temple at Sulthan Bathery. A side trip to the nearby Bandipur National Park is also recommended. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable walking shoes and light warm clothes, as the weather can be unpredictable.
