One Day Itinerary for Rajgir and Gaya

  1. 9:00 AM: Visit Griddhakuta Peak
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Rajgir

    Griddhakuta Peak is one of the two hills of Rajgir and is also known as Vulture Peak. Lord Buddha delivered many sermons at this place. You can hike or take a ropeway to reach the peak. The view from the top is spectacular and it's a great place to meditate and find peace.

  2. 11:00 AM: Explore the ruins of Nalanda University
    1 hour (17.5 km) from Griddhakuta Peak

    Nalanda University was one of the oldest universities in the world and a center for excellence in education. The ruins of the university are spread over a large area and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can see the remains of temples, stupas, and classrooms.

  3. 1:00 PM: Have lunch at Gaya
    1 hour 15 minutes (64 km) from Nalanda University

    Gaya is a holy city for Hindus and Buddhists. It's also a great place to try some local cuisine. You can find many restaurants serving authentic Bihari dishes like litti chokha, sattu paratha, and dalpuri.

  4. 2:30 PM: Visit Mahabodhi Temple
    10 minutes (3 km) from Gaya

    The Barabar Hills are a group of hills famous for their ancient rock-cut caves. The caves were used by Jain and Buddhist monks for meditation and worship. The most famous cave is the Lomas Rishi cave, which has beautiful carvings and inscriptions.

  6. 6:00 PM: Sunset at Brahmayoni Hill
    30 minutes (10 km) from Barabar Hills

    Brahmayoni Hill is a great place to watch the sunset and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding area. It's also a sacred place for Hindus and is believed to be the spot where Lord Brahma performed a yajna.
