Exploring Kedarnath in Three Days

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    Walking distance from Kedarnath helipad

The morning will be devoted to exploring the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple opens at 6:00 am, and the early morning hours provide a peaceful and serene atmosphere to offer prayers. After breakfast, head to Bhairavnath Temple, a short walk from Kedarnath Temple. The temple is dedicated to Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva, and offers a panoramic view of the valley. Spend the evening relaxing at the hotel and enjoying the local cuisine.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal and Gandhi Sarovar
    20-minute drive from Kedarnath

Begin the day early and head towards Vasuki Tal, a serene high altitude lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The trek to the lake is challenging but rewarding, and it takes about 4-5 hours to complete. The view of Chaturangi Glacier from the lake is breathtaking. After lunch, head to Gandhi Sarovar, a glacial lake named after Mahatma Gandhi. The lake is surrounded by magnificent peaks and is a popular spot for camping. Spend the evening around a bonfire and gaze at the stars in the clear night sky.

  3. Day 3: Gaurikund and Sonprayag
    30-minute drive from Kedarnath

On the last day, visit Gaurikund, the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath. Take a dip in the natural hot springs and visit the Gauri Devi Temple. After lunch, head to Sonprayag, a scenic confluence of two rivers, Mandakini and Vasuki Ganga. The place holds religious significance, and it is believed that the Pandavas passed through this place during their journey to heaven. Spend the evening exploring the local markets and collecting souvenirs.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, consider visiting Triyuginarayan Temple, which is about an hour's drive from Kedarnath. The temple is famous for its eternal flame that has been burning for centuries. You can also consider visiting the Rudra Cave, located near Kedarnath Temple. The cave is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva meditated before manifesting himself in the form of Jyotirlinga. Make sure to carry adequate warm clothing and rain gear, as the weather can be unpredictable. Avoid visiting during monsoons as the trekking route is closed due to landslides.

If you want to maximise your fun, try the local delicacies like Bal Mithai, Singori, and Kachmauli. You can also go on a helicopter ride to get a bird's eye view of the scenic landscape. Avoid littering and respect the environment and local customs.
