3-Day Nature Itinerary in Kanatal, July 2023

  1. Day 1: Surkanda Devi Temple
    1 hour 20 minutes (25 miles) from Dehradun Airport

    In the morning, visit the Surkanda Devi Temple, a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Goddess Parvati. The temple is located on top of a hill at an altitude of 10,000 feet, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Afternoon is perfect for a picnic at the Tehri Dam, which is about 45 minutes away. The dam is a major hydroelectric project and houses a beautiful lake. In the evening, head to the Kodia Jungle for a jungle safari and spot some rare Himalayan wildlife like musk deer, barking deer, and wild boars.

  2. Day 2: Dhanaulti Eco Park
    30 minutes (8 miles) from Kanatal

    Start your day with a visit to the Dhanaulti Eco Park, a natural forest area with a range of adventure activities like zip-lining, skywalking, and rappelling. The park features a beautiful amber-colored stream that flows through it, and is perfect for a morning walk. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Apple Orchard Resort for some apple picking and enjoy a delicious lunch accompanied by scenic views of the surrounding mountains. In the evening, you can visit the nearby Surkhanda Devi temple for a splendid sunset view from the top of the hill.

  3. Day 3: Tehri Lake
    1 hour 10 minutes (24 miles) from Kanatal

    On your final day, visit the serene Tehri Lake, which is a perfect spot for boating, kayaking, and canoeing. The lake is surrounded by hills and forests and offers a peaceful atmosphere for nature lovers. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Chamba town, which is famous for its apple orchards and beautiful waterfalls. Take a dip in one of the waterfalls or enjoy a peaceful walk in the orchards. In the evening, head back to Kanatal to enjoy a traditional Garhwali dinner.
