6-Day Itinerary for Turkey in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Istanbul - Hagia Sophia
    20 minutes (10.5 km) from Istanbul Airport

    In the morning, visit the iconic Hagia Sophia, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was originally built as a church in 537 AD. Spend the afternoon exploring the Blue Mosque, which is just a short walk away. End the day with a Bosphorus dinner cruise, enjoying the sunset and the beautiful views of Istanbul.

  2. Day 2: Cappadocia - Göreme Open Air Museum
    1 hour 20 minutes (78 km) from Kayseri Airport

    Start the day early with a hot air balloon ride over the unique landscape of Cappadocia. After breakfast, visit the Göreme Open Air Museum, which houses a vast collection of rock-cut churches and monasteries. Spend the rest of the day exploring the fairy chimneys, underground cities and ancient churches in the area.

  3. Day 3: Pamukkale - Hierapolis
    3 hours 40 minutes (234 km) from Cappadocia

    After breakfast, take a drive to Pamukkale, famous for its white travertine terraces and hot springs. Visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, home to an incredible amphitheatre, thermal bath and Necropolis. In the evening, relax in the thermal pools of your hotel.

  4. Day 4: Ephesus - Library of Celsus
    2 hours 40 minutes (213 km) from Pamukkale

    Visit the ancient city of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Marvel at the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and the Great Theatre. Spend the afternoon walking along the marble-paved streets of the city and exploring the Roman baths and public latrines.

  5. Day 5: Bodrum - Castle of St. Peter
    2 hours 20 minutes (168 km) from Ephesus

    Take a boat trip around the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea, stopping at secluded bays and beaches for swimming and snorkelling. In the afternoon, explore the Castle of St. Peter, which is now home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. End the day with a stroll around the charming Bodrum Marina.

  6. Day 6: Istanbul - Grand Bazaar and Topkapi Palace
    4 hours 50 minutes (485 km) from Bodrum

    Spend your last day in Istanbul visiting the Grand Bazaar, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. Buy souvenirs and gifts from the thousands of stalls selling everything from spices and textiles to ceramics and jewellery. In the afternoon, visit the Topkapi Palace, once the home of the Ottoman sultans, and admire the beautiful collections of Islamic calligraphy, Chinese porcelain, and Ottoman treasures.

Recommendations

If you have more time in Istanbul, make sure to visit the Basilica Cistern, the Chora Church and the Istanbul Modern Art Museum. Side trips to the beach town of Alacati or the ancient city of Pergamon are also highly recommended. To maximize your fun, try a Turkish bath or a cooking class to learn how to make delicious Turkish dishes. And finally, don't forget to try the local street food, such as simit, baklava and doner kebab.
