5-Day Itinerary for Chandrashila Trek in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Haridwar
    From Jolly Grant Airport (DED) to Haridwar (32.7 miles) takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by car.

    In the morning, visit the Har Ki Pauri ghat to witness the Ganga Aarti ceremony. In the afternoon, explore the ancient city of Haridwar and visit the Daksheswara Mahadev Temple. In the evening, head to the Chotiwala restaurant to sample some local cuisine.

  2. Day 2: Drive to Chopta
    From Haridwar to Chopta (124 miles) takes approximately 6 hours by car.

    In the morning, drive to Chopta and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, take a trek to Deoria Tal, a beautiful lake surrounded by forests. In the evening, enjoy a campfire and stargazing at your hotel.

  3. Day 3: Trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila
    Tungnath is located 1.8 miles from Chopta, and Chandrashila is located 1.5 miles from Tungnath.

    In the morning, start your trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. After offering prayers, continue your trek to Chandrashila Peak for a breathtaking view of the Himalayas. In the afternoon, trek back to Chopta. In the evening, relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of Chopta.

  4. Day 4: Explore Auli
    From Chopta to Auli (59.1 miles) takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes by car.

    In the morning, drive to Auli, a picturesque hill station famous for skiing. Take a cable car ride to Auli and enjoy the panoramic views of the Himalayas. In the afternoon, visit the Gurso Bugyal and enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the meadows. In the evening, return to your hotel in Auli.

  5. Day 5: Departure from Haridwar
    From Auli to Haridwar (156 miles) takes approximately 7 hours by car.

    In the morning, drive back to Haridwar and visit the Mansa Devi Temple for a panoramic view of the city. In the afternoon, visit the Chandi Devi Temple and the Maya Devi Temple. In the evening, head to the Haridwar market for some souvenir shopping before departing for the airport.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Rishikesh, a spiritual town located 18.6 miles from Haridwar. You can also take a side trip to Badrinath, one of the four Char Dhams in India. To maximize your fun, try river rafting in Rishikesh or skiing in Auli. Lastly, don't forget to try the local street food such as aloo tikki, chaat, and kachori.
