3-Day Itinerary for Pondicherry

  1. Day 1: Visit the French Quarters
    5 minutes (0.6 miles) from Pondicherry Beach

    In the morning, explore the charming French Quarters which date back to the 18th century. Visit the iconic Notre-Dame des Anges, a beautiful church with its distinctive white and gold structure. Walk along the Rue Romain Rolland and discover the colorful colonial-style villas. In the afternoon, enjoy a delicious French meal at one of the many cafes. In the evening, head to the Promenade Beach and take a stroll along the sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Explore Auroville
    30 minutes (7.5 miles) from the French Quarters

    On the second day, visit the unique experimental township of Auroville that is home to over 50 nationalities. In the morning, start your adventure by visiting the Matrimandir, the spiritual center of Auroville. In the afternoon, enjoy a scrumptious organic lunch at the Solar Kitchen. You can also explore the many handicraft boutiques, art galleries, and workshops in the area. In the evening, return to Pondicherry and relax with a sunset view at the Serenity Beach.

  3. Day 3: Dive into History and Culture
    15 minutes (2.5 miles) from Arikamedu

    On your last day, get lost in history and culture. In the morning, visit the Pondicherry Museum which houses an impressive collection of sculptures, coins, and artifacts. In the afternoon, explore the Arikamedu archaeological site which dates back to the Roman era. In the evening, take a stroll around the Botanical Garden, which is home to a wide variety of exotic plants from all over the world.

Recommendations

If you have additional time, we recommend visiting the Manakula Vinayagar Temple or taking a boat ride in the Chunnambar backwaters. You can also book a day trip to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient rock-cut temples and stunning shore temple. To maximize your fun, try some local dishes such as dosa, idli, and sambar at any of the street food stalls. Don't forget to grab some souvenirs, including handmade candles, paper mache products, and textiles.
