4-Day Kerala Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Kochi
    30 minutes (20 km) from Cochin International Airport

    In the morning, visit the iconic Chinese fishing nets, a 500-year-old technique used by local fishermen. Then, head to the Dutch Palace, also known as the Mattancherry Palace, to admire the beautiful murals and artifacts. In the afternoon, take a stroll through the historic Fort Kochi area, which is filled with charming cafes and art galleries. Finally, catch a traditional Kathakali dance performance at the Kerala Kathakali Centre in the evening.

  2. Day 2: Munnar
    4 hours (130 km) from Kochi

    Spend the morning exploring the vast tea plantations that Munnar is famous for. Take a guided tour of the tea factory to learn more about the process. In the afternoon, visit the Eravikulam National Park to see the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and other wildlife. End the day with a visit to the Top Station viewpoint to watch the sunset over the hills.

  3. Day 3: Thekkady
    3 hours 30 minutes (110 km) from Munnar

    Begin the day with a boat ride on the serene Periyar Lake and watch the animals come to the water's edge to drink. Afterward, visit the spice plantations to see how cinnamon, cardamom, and other spices are grown and processed. Take a guided tour of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the afternoon to spot elephants, tigers, and other animals. End the day with a traditional Ayurvedic massage at one of the many spas in the area.

  4. Day 4: Alleppey
    4 hours 30 minutes (140 km) from Thekkady

    Start the morning with a leisurely cruise on a houseboat through the serene backwaters of Alleppey. Observe the local villagers' daily life, and take a glimpse of the lush green paddy fields surrounding the canals. In the afternoon, head to the Alleppey beach to soak in the sun and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Catch a beautiful sunset over the Arabian sea and then end the day with a delicious seafood dinner.

Consider visiting the Athirapally waterfalls, a scenic 80-foot waterfall, or the Varkala beach, known for its red cliffs and stunning views.
