Two-Day Family Friendly Itinerary from Indri to Kedarnath

  1. Day 1: Haridwar
    1 hour 15 minutes (41.2 miles) from Indri

    Morning: Start your day by taking a dip in the holy Ganges river at Har Ki Pauri Ghat. You can also witness the Ganga Aarti ceremony which takes place every morning at 5:30 AM. Enjoy a hearty breakfast consisting of local delicacies like aloo puri or kachori at Mohan Ji Puri Wale or Hoshiyar Puri.
    Afternoon: Visit Mansa Devi Temple which can be reached by a cable car ride. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi who is believed to fulfill the wishes of her devotees. Have lunch at Mohan Ji's Prasad Bhandar which serves delicious thalis.
    Evening: Explore the bustling market of Haridwar and shop for souvenirs like Rudraksha beads, idols of Hindu Gods, and brass items. You can also visit the Chandi Devi Temple which can be reached by a cable car ride. Head to Mathura Walon Ki Pracheen Dukaan which serves mouth-watering pedas and other sweets.

  2. Day 2: Kedarnath
    6 hours 30 minutes (127.1 miles) from Haridwar

    Morning: Start your day early and drive to Gaurikund which is the base camp for the Kedarnath trek. Enroute you can visit the ancient Triyuginarayan Temple which is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Parvati got married. Enjoy a hot breakfast at any of the dhabas on the way.
    Afternoon: Begin your trek to Kedarnath which is a moderate level trek of 16 km. You can also hire a mule or a palanquin if you are not comfortable trekking. Have a packed lunch on the way. Once you reach Kedarnath, visit the Kedarnath Temple which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
    Evening: After seeking blessings at the temple, explore the natural beauty of Kedarnath and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Head back to Gaurikund and have dinner at any of the local restaurants.

Recommendations

Do not miss visiting the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Rishikesh which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located amidst the mountains. You can also go river rafting on the Ganges river in Rishikesh. If you have time, you can also visit the Rajaji National Park which is home to a variety of wildlife like tigers, elephants, and leopards. To maximize fun, take a helicopter ride to Kedarnath instead of trekking. This will give you a bird's eye view of the majestic Himalayas.
