Four-Day Nature Itinerary in Mumbai for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Sanjay Gandhi National Park
    50 minutes (22.5 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    In the morning, explore the lush greenery and wildlife of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Take a safari and spot leopards, tigers, and many other animals. Afternoon, hike to Kanheri Caves, a series of caves and rock-cut monuments, dating back to the 1st century BC. In the evening, take a toy train ride and enjoy the scenic beauty of the park.

  2. Day 2: Elephanta Caves
    1 hour 20 minutes (12 km by ferry) from Gateway of India

    In the morning, take a ferry ride to the Elephanta Caves, located on the Elephanta Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ancient rock-cut cave temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, return to Mumbai and visit the lush green Hanging Gardens. In the evening, take a stroll on Marine Drive and witness a beautiful sunset on the Arabian Sea.

  3. Day 3: Karnala Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (50 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    In the morning, visit Karnala Bird Sanctuary, home to various bird species, including the endangered Ashy Minivet. Take a trek to Karnala Fort, located within the sanctuary. Afternoon, visit the nearby Karnala Fort. In the evening, return to Mumbai and relax at Juhu Beach, one of Mumbai's most popular beaches.

  4. Day 4: Yeoor Hills
    50 minutes (25 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    In the morning, explore the Yeoor Hills, a forested area with many hiking trails. Visit the Upvan Lake, located within the hills. Afternoon, visit the Kanheri Caves in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park if you missed them on Day 1. In the evening, watch a beautiful sunset at the Global Vipassana Pagoda, a meditation center and a popular tourist attraction.

Recommendations

If you have more time, visit the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, located 4 hours away from Mumbai. You can also take a day trip to the nearby hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala. To maximize your fun, try the local street food, like Vada Pav and Pav Bhaji, and visit the Crawford Market for some shopping. Don't forget to take a Bollywood tour and visit the Film City during your stay in Mumbai.
