Start your day at Shey Palace Complex, the ancient summer palace of the Leh Royal family. Admire the beautiful murals and statues while learning about the history and culture of Ladakh. In the afternoon, head to Thiksey Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Ladakh, to witness the daily prayers and explore the fascinating collections of Buddhist art, scriptures and artifacts. End your day with a visit to the Shanti Stupa, a beautiful white-domed structure offering a panoramic view of Leh city and surrounding mountains.
Embark on a scenic drive to Nubra Valley, known as the "Valley of Flowers" situated on the northern side of the Ladakh range. Stop at Khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world, and take in the breathtaking views. Visit the Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the valley, and explore the sand dunes of Hunder while riding a double-humped Bactrian camel. Return to Leh in the evening.
Aside from the suggested itinerary, other must-see attractions in Ladakh include the Hemis Monastery, Alchi Monastery, and Tso Moriri Lake. For a unique experience, try the Chadar Trek during winter, or the Markha Valley Trek for a summer adventure. If you have more time, visit the Zanskar Valley or take a road trip to Manali. To maximize your fun, don't forget to acclimatize to the altitude, stay hydrated, and wear warm clothing, as temperatures can drop significantly. Lastly, indulge in the local cuisine, particularly momos, thukpa and chhang, for a truly authentic Ladakhi experience.
