Kedarnath Nature Itinerary in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Guptkashi
    40 minutes (20 km) from Kedarnath

    In the morning, visit the ancient Vishwanath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and enjoy the stunning views of the Mandakini river. After lunch, explore the nearby Manikarnika Kund, a natural hot water spring, and experience its healing properties. In the evening, take a stroll in the local market and indulge in some shopping for souvenirs.

  2. Day 2: Kedarnath Temple
    30 minutes (16 km) from Guptkashi

    Visit the famous Kedarnath Temple in the morning, one of the four sacred shrines in Hinduism. The temple is located amidst scenic mountains and is accessible via a trek. After lunch, visit Bhairavnath Temple, a small temple dedicated to Lord Bhairav, situated near the main temple. Spend the evening trekking around Kedarnath and bask in the natural beauty around you.

  3. Day 3: Vasuki Tal
    3 hours (10 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, take a 3-hour trek to Vasuki Tal, a serene lake in the Himalayas that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Enjoy a packed lunch by the lake and head back to Kedarnath by late afternoon. In the evening, relax and rejuvenate with a hot spring bath at Gaurikund, a small town located near Kedarnath.

  4. Day 4: Chorabari Tal
    2 hours (6 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Start the day with a trek to Chorabari Tal, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 3,900m. The trek can be challenging owing to the high altitude, but the stunning views of snow-capped mountains and the lake are worth it. Return to Kedarnath by late afternoon and visit Shankaracharya Samadhi, a shrine dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya, a great Indian philosopher and theologian. In the evening, catch the mesmerizing sunset from Kedarnath and immerse yourself in the peaceful surroundings.

  5. Day 5: Sonprayag
    1 hour 40 minutes (42 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    On the last day, visit Sonprayag, a small town located on the confluence of the Mandakini and Basuki rivers. After breakfast, trek to the nearby Triyuginarayan Temple, a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Return to Sonprayag for lunch and indulge in some river rafting or fishing. In the evening, head back to Kedarnath and catch your flight back home.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, located 30 km from Kedarnath. Alternatively, you can take a trip to the nearby town of Rudraprayag, which offers scenic views of the confluence of the Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers. You can also maximize your fun by trying out adventure sports such as bungee jumping, zip lining, and rock climbing at Jumpin Heights Adventure Park in Rishikesh, located 90 km from Kedarnath.
