Two-Day Jaipur Itinerary for May 2024

  1. Day 1: Amber Fort
20 minutes (5.5 miles) from Jaipur

In the morning, visit Amber Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most famous attraction in Jaipur. This magnificent fort was built in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh and is made of red sandstone and marble. Spend the afternoon exploring the fort's vast complex of palaces, gardens, and courtyards, and don't miss the Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors). In the evening, attend the Light and Sound Show that tells the story of the fort's history.

  2. Day 2: City Palace and Hawa Mahal
10 minutes (3.2 miles) from Amber Fort

Start your morning exploring the City Palace, a complex of courtyards, gardens, and buildings that served as the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The palace is a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles and houses a museum with an impressive collection of royal costumes and weapons. In the afternoon, visit Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds. This five-story palace was built in 1799 and has 953 small windows called jharokhas that were designed to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen. In the evening, walk around the nearby marketplaces, such as Bapu Bazaar and Johari Bazaar, and indulge in local street food.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory built in the 18th century. You can also take a side trip to the nearby village of Samode and visit Samode Palace, a heritage hotel that was once a palace. To maximize your fun, try taking a hot air balloon ride over Jaipur to get a bird's eye view of the city. Lastly, make sure to try the iconic Rajasthani thali, a platter of various dishes served in small bowls, at a local restaurant.
