5-Day Adventure Itinerary in Shillong in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Elephant Falls
    20 minutes (12.6 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Elephant Falls, where you can take a dip in the cool water and enjoy the beautiful scenery. In the afternoon, trek to the Shillong Peak, the highest point in Shillong, and get a panoramic view of the city. In the evening, head to Police Bazaar for some local shopping and enjoy the local street food.

  2. Day 2: Mawphlang Sacred Forest
    45 minutes (25.6 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit Mawphlang Sacred Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see the rarest birds and animals. In the afternoon, visit Umiam Lake and indulge in water sports like kayaking, boating or fishing. In the evening, head to Laitumkhrah and try some local delicacies at the popular food joints in the area.

  3. Day 3: Dawki
    2 hours (81.1 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, drive to Dawki and visit the Umngot River, one of the cleanest rivers in Asia. Take a boat ride and see the beautiful crystal clear water and the magnificent view of the mountains. In the afternoon, visit the Bangladesh border and see the Indo-Bangladesh Zero Point. In the evening, head to Shnongpdeng and enjoy adventure sports like cliff jumping and zip-lining.

  4. Day 4: Cherrapunji
    1 hour 30 minutes (55.8 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, drive to Cherrapunji, also known as the wettest place on earth, and visit the Mawsmai Cave, a natural limestone cave, and see the beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. In the afternoon, visit the Seven Sisters Falls, a group of seven waterfalls, and Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. In the evening, head back to Shillong.

  5. Day 5: David Scott Trail
    1 hour 20 minutes (38.6 km) from Shillong

    In the morning, trek the David Scott Trail, an ancient trail used by British officials during the colonial era. The trail offers a beautiful view of the river and surrounding hills. In the afternoon, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures and learn about the indigenous people of North East India. In the evening, head to Bara Bazaar and shop for some souvenirs.

Recommendations

If you have some extra days, you can consider taking a side trip to Mawsynram, the town with the highest annual rainfall in the world. Also, try the local delicacies like Jadoh, Dohneiiong, and Tungrymbai.
