Mumbai to Rajmachi Adventure Itinerary - July 2023

  1. 6:00AM: Leave Mumbai for Lonavala
    83km (2 hours) from Mumbai

    Start your day early and leave Mumbai for Lonavala, a popular hill station known for its scenic beauty. You can either take a cab or drive yourself. Enjoy a cup of tea and some breakfast at Lonavala before starting your trek to Rajmachi.

  2. 9:00AM: Start Trek from Lonavala to Rajmachi
    15km (4 hours) trek

    Start your trek from Lonavala to Rajmachi. The trek is moderately challenging, but you will have beautiful views of the Sahyadri mountains and the lush green forests along the way. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the trek.

  3. 1:00PM: Reach Rajmachi and Visit Shrivardhan Fort
    0.5km (10 minutes) from Rajmachi Village

    After reaching Rajmachi, visit the Shrivardhan Fort. The fort was built in the 17th century and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. Spend some time exploring the fort and taking in the beautiful views.

  4. 3:30PM: Lunch at Rajmachi Village
    0.5km (10 minutes) from Shrivardhan Fort

    Head back to the Rajmachi village for a late lunch. You can try local delicacies like Vada Pav and Misal Pav. There are also a few stalls selling fresh fruits and juices.

  5. 4:30PM: Visit Kondhane Caves
    6km (30 minutes) from Rajmachi Village

    Visit the Kondhane Caves, a group of 16 Buddhist caves located on the way to Rajmachi. The caves date back to the 2nd century BC and are famous for their intricate carvings and sculptures. Spend some time exploring the caves before heading back to Lonavala.

  6. 6:00PM: Depart from Lonavala to Mumbai
    83km (2 hours) from Lonavala

    Depart from Lonavala and head back to Mumbai. You can either drive yourself or take a cab. Reach Mumbai by 8:00PM and have dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Recommendations

You can also consider visiting the Karla Caves, a group of rock-cut caves located in Lonavala, on your way back to Mumbai. If you have more time, you can also plan a side trip to the Bhaja Caves, a group of 22 rock-cut caves located near Lonavala. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks during the trek and wear comfortable shoes. Don't forget to carry a camera to capture the beautiful views.
