4-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Bhutan in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Thimphu
    1 hour (30 miles) from Paro International Airport

    In the morning, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a popular religious landmark, and the Buddha Dordenma Statue, a massive bronze statue of Lord Buddha.   2. Day 2: Punakha
    2.5 hours (45 miles) from Thimphu

    Start your day by visiting the Punakha Dzong, a magnificent fortress that was once the seat of Bhutan's government. Then, take a short hike to the Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely walk through the rice paddies and visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery. In the evening, relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Punakha valley.

  3. Day 3: Paro
    3 hours (75 miles) from Punakha

    In the morning, hike up to the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, which is perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro valley. Afternoon, visit the National Museum of Bhutan and take a stroll through the quaint town of Paro, which is dotted with traditional Bhutanese houses. In the evening, enjoy a cultural show or dine at a local restaurant.

  4. Day 4: Haa Valley
    2 hours (55 miles) from Paro

    In the morning, drive to the Haa Valley, which is known for its pristine natural beauty and serene atmosphere. Visit the Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo, two ancient temples and the Haa Valley Viewpoint for a panoramic view of the valley. In the afternoon, take a leisurely walk through the valley and experience the daily life of the locals. In the evening, return to Paro and catch a flight back home.

You may also want to consider visiting the Dochula Pass, where you can see the Himalayas on a clear day, or the Chele La Pass, which is the highest motorable pass in Bhutan.
