3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kelra Wayanadu in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    32 minutes (13.3 km) from Kelra Wayanadu

    In the morning, start your adventure by hiking up to the top of Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek takes around 3-4 hours, but the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the heart-shaped lake at the top make it all worthwhile. After a quick lunch, head to Soochipara Waterfalls for a refreshing dip in the pool below the falls. In the evening, explore the stunning Edakkal Caves, famous for their prehistoric rock art.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    24 minutes (11.5 km) from Edakkal Caves

    Start your day early with a visit to Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of endangered species such as Indian bison, elephants, tigers, and leopards. Take a jeep safari through the sanctuary and spot some exotic wildlife. After lunch, head to Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. Go kayaking or take a speed boat ride on the dam's tranquil waters and take in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. In the evening, visit Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple

    On the final day, visit the ancient Thirunelli Temple, located in the heart of the Brahmagiri hills. The temple is known for its unique architecture and is considered one of the holiest temples in Kerala. After exploring the temple, head to the nearby Pakshipathalam bird sanctuary, a hidden gem nestled in the Western Ghats. The sanctuary is home to a variety of bird species, and the trek to the top of the hill provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains. In the evening, unwind at the serene Meenmutty Falls, the largest waterfall in Wayanad.

If you have more time, consider visiting the Kuruva Island, a group of uninhabited islands located in the middle of the Kabini river. You can take a bamboo raft and explore the lush green forests and spot some exotic birds and butterflies. You can also visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, deer, and tigers. For side trips, you can visit the nearby Bandipur National Park or the Nagarhole National Park, both famous for their rich wildlife.
