The Kukke Subramanya Temple is devoted to Lord Subramanya, one of the most revered gods in Hindu mythology. According to legend, Lord Subramanya is believed to have killed the demon Tarakasura at this site.
In the morning, take a leisurely walk around the temple complex and admire its exquisite architecture. From 12 PM to 1 PM, the temple is closed for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Adi Subrahmanya Temple located on the banks of the Kumaradhara River. The temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya's elder brother, Lord Ganesha.
In the evening, head to the nearby Bisle View Point, which offers stunning views of the Pushpagiri, Kumaraparvatha, and Dodda Betta mountain ranges. It's a perfect spot to watch the sunset and unwind after a long day.
The Kukke Subramanya Wildlife Sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers. Spread over 200 square kilometres, the sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife such as tigers, elephants, leopards, and sambars.
In the morning, take a jeep safari and explore the sanctuary's dense forests and grasslands. The safari lasts for around 2 hours and is led by a knowledgeable guide who will point out the different flora and fauna in the area.
After the safari, visit the Kukke Lingasara, a sacred pond located near the sanctuary's entrance. It is believed that taking a dip in the pond will bring good luck and prosperity.
In the afternoon, trek to the Kumaraparvatha peak, which stands at an altitude of 1,712 metres. The trek is challenging but highly rewarding, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
If you have extra time, consider visiting the Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple, which is about 1 hour (30 km) from Subrahmanya. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for its intricate carvings and sculptures. You can also explore the nearby coffee plantations and learn about the coffee-making process.
To maximise your fun, try some of the local delicacies like the Maddur Vade, a crispy rice flour fritter, and the Akki Rotti, a rice-based flatbread.
If you want to go on a side trip, head to the nearby Western Ghats and explore its many trekking trails and waterfalls. The Bisle Ghat and the Charmadi Ghat are popular destinations for trekkers and nature enthusiasts.
