Exploring Nagaland in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kohima
    1 hour 30 minutes (39.6 miles) from Dimapur Airport

    In the morning, visit the Kohima War Cemetery to pay your respects. After that, head to the State Museum to get an insight into Nagaland's history. In the afternoon, go to the Kohima Zoo to see the local wildlife. For the evening, visit the local market to try some traditional Naga cuisine.

  2. Day 2: Mokokchung

    In the morning, visit the Longkhum village to witness the rich culture of the Ao tribe. After that, head to the Chuchuyimlang village to see the traditional way of life of the Yimchunger tribe. In the evening, explore the Mokokchung town to learn about the local customs and traditions.

  3. Day 3: Mon
    5 hours 30 minutes (138 miles) from Mokokchung

    In the morning, visit the Veda Peak to see the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After that, head to the Shangnyu village to see the traditional wood carvings and architecture of the Konyak tribe. In the evening, visit the nearby Longwa village to learn about the local customs and enjoy a traditional Naga feast.

  4. Day 4: Dzukou Valley
    3 hours 30 minutes (72.5 miles) from Mon

    In the morning, hike to the picturesque Dzukou Valley to see the beautiful flowers and plants. After that, head back to Kohima to enjoy the local nightlife. In the evening, visit some of the local bars to try some of the famous Naga rice beers.

Recommendations

If you have the time, visit the Tuophema Tourist Village to experience the traditional way of life of the Angami tribe. You could also take a side trip to the nearby state of Manipur to explore the famous Loktak Lake. To maximize your fun, consider attending the Hornbill Festival in December, which showcases the diverse culture of Nagaland. Additionally, try to interact with the locals to learn more about the rich history and traditions of the state.
