Family-Friendly 3-Day Itinerary for Ujjain in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Ujjain Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines in India, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Witness the Bhasma Aarti, a daily ritual where the deity is adorned with ash. In the afternoon, explore the Ram Ghat, a popular spot for taking a dip in the holy Shipra River. In the evening, attend the Sandhya Aarti at Harsiddhi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.

  2. Day 2: Kalideh Palace and Observatory
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

    In the morning, visit the Kalideh Palace, a 19th-century palace with beautiful architecture and a serene garden. Next, head to the Jantar Mantar Observatory, one of the five observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. In the afternoon, explore the Bhartrihari Caves, named after the famous philosopher Bhartrihari who is believed to have meditated here. In the evening, attend the Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir Aarti, a beautiful ceremony at the temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh.

  3. Day 3: Chintaman Ganesh Temple and Kaliadeh Wildlife Sanctuary
    20 minutes (6 km) from Kalideh Palace

    In the morning, visit the Chintaman Ganesh Temple, a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh where devotees offer laddoos to the deity. Next, head to Kaliadeh Wildlife Sanctuary, a beautiful sanctuary with a variety of birds and animals like blackbucks and nilgais. In the afternoon, explore the Vikram Kirti Mandir Museum, a museum dedicated to the life and achievements of King Vikramaditya. In the evening, enjoy a boat ride on the Shipra River and witness the beautiful sunset.
