7-Day Spiti Itinerary for Motorcycle Riding in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Shimla to Narkanda
    1 hour 30 minutes (43 miles) from Shimla

    Start your motorcycle adventure from Shimla to Narkanda via NH5. Narkanda is famous for its apple orchards and skiing slopes. En route, stop at Kufri, a small hill station known for its picturesque views and adventure activities.

  2. Day 2: Narkanda to Sarahan
    3 hours 30 minutes (86 miles) from Narkanda

    Hit the road towards Sarahan, also known as the Gateway to Kinnaur. Visit the Bhimakali Temple, a historic temple dedicated to the mother goddess Bhimakali. Take a stroll around the village and immerse yourself in the local culture.

  3. Day 3: Sarahan to Sangla
    2 hours 40 minutes (67 miles) from Sarahan

    Ride through Kinnaur Valley, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Spend the day exploring the quaint village of Sangla, known for its apple orchards, pine trees, and the Kamru Fort. Take a dip in the Baspa River, which flows through the town.

  4. Day 4: Sangla to Kalpa
    2 hours 30 minutes (39 miles) from Sangla

    Ride to Kalpa, a beautiful village located in the Kinnaur district. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Kinner Kailash range, the Shivling peaks, and the Kinnaur Kailash range. Visit the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar monastery, which houses rare and ancient scriptures.

  5. Day 5: Kalpa to Tabo
    4 hours 30 minutes (99 miles) from Kalpa

    Head towards Tabo, a small town in the Spiti Valley known for its ancient monastery. Visit the Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and admire the intricate wall paintings and ancient scriptures. Ride to the nearby Dhankar village and explore the Dhankar Monastery.

  6. Day 6: Tabo to Kaza
    1 hour 20 minutes (32 miles) from Tabo

    Ride to Kaza, the largest town in the Spiti Valley. Visit the Key Monastery, one of the oldest and biggest monasteries in the region. Explore Kibber Village, which is one of the highest inhabited villages in the world.

  7. Day 7: Kaza to Manali
    5 hours 30 minutes (109 miles) from Kaza

    On your last day, ride through the Kunzum La Pass and reach Manali. Visit the Hidimba Devi Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Hidimba. Relax in the hot water springs of Vashisht.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, visit the Chandratal Lake, known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning views. Take a side trip to the Pin Valley National Park, which is home to rare and endangered animals such as the snow leopard, the Siberian ibex, and the Himalayan wolf. Make sure to carry enough drinking water and fuel, as the Spiti Valley has limited resources.
