5-Day Adventure Itinerary in Meghalaya - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Shillong
    20 minutes (6.2 miles) from Umiam Lake

    In the morning, trek to the top of Shillong Peak and enjoy the breathtaking view of the city. In the afternoon, take a dip in the Elephant Falls and have a picnic. In the evening, explore the vibrant Laitumkhrah market and try some local street food.

  2. Day 2: Cherrapunji
    2 hours (34 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. In the afternoon, explore the Krem Mawmluh Cave, one of the longest caves in India. In the evening, witness the unique living root bridges of Cherrapunji.

  3. Day 3: Dawki
    2.5 hours (54 miles) from Cherrapunji

    In the morning, go kayaking in the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River. In the afternoon, visit the Dawki Bridge, which connects India and Bangladesh. In the evening, relax by the river and enjoy the sunset.

  4. Day 4: Mawlynnong
    1.5 hours (47 miles) from Dawki

    In the morning, take a guided trek to the living root bridge in Riwai village. In the afternoon, explore the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong, and its stunning treehouse viewpoint. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Khasi dinner with the locals.

  5. Day 5: Nongriat
    2 hours (44 miles) from Mawlynnong

    In the morning, trek down to the Double-Decker Living Root Bridge, one of the most iconic attractions in Meghalaya. In the afternoon, visit the Rainbow Falls, a breathtaking waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. In the evening, relax in your hotel and reflect on your adventure-filled trip.

Aside from the mentioned attractions, you can also explore the Mawphlang Sacred Forest, a peaceful forest reserve filled with ancient trees, unique wildlife and a rich cultural heritage. You can also visit the Balpakram National Park, home to Bengal tigers, elephants, and other rare species. If you have time, consider a day trip to the nearby state of Assam and visit the famous Kamakhya Temple.
