4-Day Kochi and Varkala Foodie Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kochi
    30 minutes (18.5 km) from Kochi International Airport

    In the morning, visit the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets located at Fort Kochi Beach. These nets were introduced by Chinese traders and have been in use for centuries. For lunch, head to Dal Roti for some delicious North Indian cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, which has a beautiful collection of murals and artifacts. Finish your day by exploring the bustling streets of Jew Town, where you can find antique shops and spice markets.

  2. Day 2: Kochi
    25 minutes (8.4 km) from Fort Kochi

    Begin your day with breakfast at the iconic Indian Coffee House, which has been serving coffee since 1958. Then, head to the St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India, and the burial place of Vasco da Gama. For lunch, head to The Rice Boat for some delicious seafood. In the afternoon, visit the Paradesi Synagogue, which is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Finish your day with a visit to Marine Drive, a picturesque promenade with stunning views of the waterfront.

  3. Day 3: Varkala
    1 hour 30 minutes (47.7 km) from Kochi

    Start your day with breakfast at Darjeeling Cafe before heading to Varkala Beach, a beautiful and serene beach with stunning cliffs. Relax on the beach or take a dip in the ocean. For lunch, head to Abba Restaurant, which serves a variety of cuisines. In the afternoon, visit the Janardhana Swamy Temple, which is a 2,000-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Finish your day by watching the sunset at the stunning Varkala Cliff.

  4. Day 4: Varkala
    15 minutes (7.5 km) from Varkala Beach

    Begin your day by visiting the Sivagiri Mutt, a pilgrimage center dedicated to the social reformer and philosopher, Sree Narayana Guru. Then, head to the Kappil Beach for some relaxation and a serene view of the backwaters. For lunch, head to Trattorias, which serves some delicious Italian food. In the evening, head to the Helipad Cliff, which is a popular spot for watching the sunset.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider taking a day trip to the Athirapally Waterfalls, which is about 2 hours (73.9 km) from Kochi. You can also take a boat ride in the backwaters of Kerala or visit the Hill Palace Museum in Kochi. To maximize your fun, try some of the local street food like dosa, vada, and samosas.
