5-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Snow in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Big Bear Lake
    2 hours 30 minutes (107 miles) from Los Angeles

    In the morning, hit the slopes at Big Bear Mountain Resort and enjoy skiing, snowboarding or tubing, followed by a picnic lunch on the lake shore. In the afternoon, head to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo to see rescued animals. In the evening, unwind at the Bowling Barn or watch a movie at the Village Theaters.

  2. Day 2: Mount Baldy
    1 hour 30 minutes (55 miles) from Big Bear Lake

    Take the ski lift up Mount Baldy and hike the Devil's Backbone Trail for stunning mountain views. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the mountain top. In the afternoon, visit the historic Mt. Baldy Lodge for drinks and live music. In the evening, enjoy stargazing at the Mount Baldy Observatory.

  3. Day 3: Mammoth Lakes

Recommendations

In addition to the above, consider taking a side trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Do not forget to pack snow gear, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Plan ahead for lift tickets, rentals, and equipment. Bring snacks and water for each trip and book accommodations in advance.
