3-Day Itinerary for Beijing China in June 2023

  1. Day 1: The Great Wall of China
    1 hour 30 minutes (43.5 miles) from Beijing city center

    In the morning, head to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China. This section is less crowded than others, allowing for a peaceful walk along the wall with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. In the afternoon, explore the ancient Badaling section of the wall, one of the most well-preserved sections. End your day with a visit to the nearby Ming Tombs, the final resting place of 13 emperors of the Ming dynasty.

  2. Day 2: The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square
    30 minutes (6.6 miles) from Mutianyu section of the Great Wall

    Start your day at the Forbidden City, a former imperial palace and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and learn about the history of the Chinese Imperial family. After lunch, head to Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world. Visit the National Museum of China and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. End your day with a visit to the Temple of Heaven, a religious complex for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

  3. Day 3: Summer Palace and Hutongs
    50 minutes (9.3 miles) from the Temple of Heaven

    Begin your day at the Summer Palace, a vast imperial garden and UNESCO World Heritage site. Wander through the gardens, visit the beautiful palaces, and take a boat ride on Kunming Lake. In the afternoon, explore the ancient Hutongs, traditional alleyways and courtyard houses of Beijing. Take a rickshaw tour and learn about the local way of life. End your day with a visit to Wangfujing Street, a famous shopping district and enjoy some traditional street food.
