3-Day Beijing Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: The Forbidden City
15 minutes (3.5 km) from the hotel

Begin your trip with a visit to the Forbidden City, one of the most iconic landmarks in Beijing. Nestled in the center of the city, the palace complex houses over 9,000 rooms and has a rich history that dates back to the Ming dynasty. Walk through the grand halls, admire the intricate architecture, and learn about the Chinese emperors who once called this place home. In the morning, you can take a guided tour, or explore the palace complex on your own. In the afternoon, venture to Jingshan Park, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the Forbidden City from above. End your day with a visit to the nearby Wangfujing Street, one of the most famous shopping streets in Beijing.

  2. Day 2: The Great Wall of China
1 hour 20 minutes (68 km) from the hotel

Visit one of the seven wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China. Be sure to start early to avoid the crowds and catch the stunning sunrise over the wall. There are a few sections of the wall to choose from, but Badaling and Mutianyu are two of the most popular. Both have stunning views and offer the chance to hike along the wall. In the afternoon, explore the Summer Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located northwest of Beijing, the palace features beautiful gardens, temples, and a serene lake, making it a perfect escape from the bustling city. In the evening, head to Houhai Lake, where you can enjoy a relaxing boat ride and finish the day with a delicious dinner at one of the many lakeside restaurants.

  3. Day 3: The Temple of Heaven
25 minutes (11 km) from the hotel

Start your day with a visit to the Temple of Heaven, another UNESCO World Heritage site. This beautiful temple was built in the Ming dynasty and was used by emperors to pray for good harvests. The temple complex consists of several religious buildings and a large garden. Afterward, head to the nearby Panjiayuan Antique Market, which is known for its extensive collection of antique Chinese items. In the afternoon, visit the 798 Art District, which is a hub of contemporary art in Beijing. You'll find galleries, museums, cafes, and unique street art. In the evening, catch a performance of the famous Beijing Opera at the Liyuan Theater.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider taking a day trip to the nearby city of Tianjin, which is known for its colonial architecture and street food. You can also take a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Chinese dishes, such as dumplings and baozi. For a unique experience, take a bike tour of the city, which allows you to explore the city at a leisurely pace. Finally, we recommend downloading a language translation app to help you communicate with locals and navigate the city like a pro.
