Shillong on a Shoestring Budget - 3 Day Itinerary - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Exploring Shillong
    20 minutes (5.2 km) from Shillong airport

    Start your day with a visit to the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures. This seven-story museum showcases the cultural diversity of Northeast India. Spend your afternoon at the Ward's Lake. You can take a walk around the lake, have a picnic or even go boating. In the evening, visit the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians. The architecture of the church is breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere is perfect for some quiet reflection.

  2. Day 2: Trekking and Caving
    1 hour 5 minutes (30 km) from Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians

    Start your day early with a visit to the Elephant Falls. After that, head to the David Scott Trail for a beautiful trek. The trek is about 16 km long, so make sure you carry enough water and snacks. For the afternoon, visit the Mawsmai Cave, which has some beautiful limestone formations. The cave can get a bit crowded, so try to reach early to avoid the rush. In the evening, visit the Shillong View Point for a panoramic view of the city.

  3. Day 3: Exploring Local Markets
    30 minutes (5.3 km) from Shillong View Point

    Start your day by visiting the Police Bazaar. This bustling market has everything from street food to handicrafts. After that, head to the Iewduh Market, which is the largest traditional market in Shillong. You can find everything from fruits and vegetables to clothes and electronics. Spend your afternoon at the Lady Hydari Park, which has beautiful gardens and a mini-zoo. In the evening, visit the All Saints' Cathedral for its beautiful stained glass windows.

If you have time, you can also visit the Laitlum Canyons for a breathtaking view of the hills.
