Exploring Nature in Wayanad

  1. Day 1: Pookode Lake
    20 minutes (7.7 km) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the serene Pookode Lake. Surrounded by lush greenery, this natural freshwater lake is a popular spot for boating. Take a paddleboat or a rowboat and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. You can also walk around the lake and spot some of the native birds, animals, and fishes.

    Afternoon: Head to the nearby Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of around 200 meters. Trek through the dense forests to reach the falls and take a refreshing dip in the cool waters. You can also enjoy some local snacks from the nearby food stalls.

    Evening: Visit the Edakkal Caves, an archaeological wonder where you can see ancient rock carvings and paintings. The trek to the caves is steep, but the view from the top is worth it. Enjoy the sunset and the stunning views of Wayanad from the top.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (32.5 km) from Sulthan Bathery

    Morning: Start early and head to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the peak takes around three hours, but the stunning views from the top make it worth the effort. Trek through the dense forests, grasslands, and steep trails to reach the heart-shaped lake on the top.

    Afternoon: Visit the nearby Meenmutty Falls, a three-tiered waterfall cascading from a height of around 300 meters. Trek through the forest and cross the river to reach the falls. Take a refreshing dip in the cool waters and enjoy the scenic beauty.

    Evening: Head back to Sulthan Bathery and visit the Jain Temple, an ancient temple dating back to the 13th century. The temple has exquisite carvings and sculptures and is a must-visit for history buffs.

If you are interested in wildlife, you can visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and other animals. You can also visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India and offers boating and trekking opportunities.
